Changing the gender on a train ticket booked through Indian Railways (via IRCTC or RailOne) is not possible online once the ticket is booked. The system does not allow direct editing of passenger details, including gender, after booking.
No Online Option for Gender Change
IRCTC and RailOne apps/websites do not provide any feature to update the gender field once a ticket is confirmed or waitlisted.
The details remain locked as per the original booking.
How to Change Gender – Offline Process
If you need to correct the gender on your ticket, you must do it offline by visiting a Railway Reservation Office or the Station Master’s office at least 24 hours before your train’s departure.
Steps to Follow:
- Carry your original ticket (printed ticket or e-ticket printout).
- Bring valid ID proof (Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID) showing the correct gender.
- Write a request explaining the reason for the change and the correct passenger details.
- Provide proof or explanation for the mismatch.
- The Railway Reservation Officer will check your request and approve it if valid.
- An updated ticket or slip will be issued with corrected gender information.
Note: Gender correction is usually allowed only once per ticket.
Important Restrictions
- Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure.
- Late requests (close to departure time) may be denied.
- Applies whether the ticket is Confirmed, RAC, or Waitlisted.
- Incorrect gender details can cause problems during ticket checks, especially for gender-specific accommodations like ladies’ coaches.
- Always carry ID proof that matches the ticket details.
If You Cannot Change Gender
- You may still be allowed to travel if you have valid ID proof.
- There might be issues with seat allocation, especially for female passengers booked as male or vice versa.
- Train Ticket Examiners (TTEs) may allow you to travel but cannot guarantee a berth in gender-restricted areas.
